A love of design and craft is something that has always been my driving force. Always striving to be my best in the most practical sense, I trained in Purpose Made Joinery, completing City and Guilds to Advanced level. After working several years in a joinery workshop I made the leap to studying Architecture at Sheffield University where I gained a BA with Honours. I came to West Devon in 1999 to complete my postgraduate Architecture Diploma at Plymouth University and worked in architectural practices for a number of years.

My background in joinery means I have the expertise to carry out frame repairs when needed. My training in design has given me an eye for proportion, pattern and colour.

Upholstery has given me the opportunity to engage with the craft side of design which is a big part of who I am. I was frustrated working in Architecture because much of what I did was infront of a computer. Added to this, much time was spent with my autistic son who could not cope with conventional school. He now attends a residential special school during the working week which has given me the time to re-assess and re-train, and I am fortunate to have found my niche.

As well as a good understanding of colour and texture, I know that sensory issues can sometimes be an important consideration that effect the choices of materials to be used and can tailor to your needs.

Every chair is unique, and every client has their own personal preferences. If you would like to talk with me about your upholstered piece, please do contact me.
